"...This is still something I'm involved with in my painting-- the creation of a private world, with all these elements that arrive from all sides and in different forms, different ways."
- Lee Mullican
Career
In 1951, Mullican was part of an exhibition called "Dynaton" held at the San Francisco Museum of Art. From 1962 to 1990, he was a member of the UCLA School of Arts and Architecture faculty. Mullican had a unique method of applying paint with a printer's knife to achieve his signature 'rigid' and 'linear' qualities; much of his work was influenced by cosmology.
