"I don’t consider myself a ‘collage artist,’ but I would say that collage describes my thinking process – nonlinear, absurd, sometimes beautiful, sometimes grotesque and fragmented."
-Ransome Stanley
Career
Stanley studied at the Merz Academy in Stuttgart from 1975 to 1979 and was a master student at Merz. In 1979, he received a guest studio scholarship from GEDOK Stuttgart. Since 1986 he has been working as a freelance artist. Stanley's pictures, drawings, sketches and collages contain recourse to ciphers from African art and illuminate his own identity, which is shaped by its origins in two cultures.
According to a report in the Upper Bavarian Volksblatt, Stanley presents "representational drawings, some with quotation fragments, which only superficially suggest a statement, but on closer inspection leave room for an exploration, for an intellectual debate."
